On Friday November 6th at the Landis Performing Arts Center in Riverside, California I had the pleasure of attending a showing of Mel Brooks Young Frankenstein. The Musical Comedy took place on a Proscenium stage with a live orchestra accompanying the actors. As I found myself finding my way to my seat I found myself excited waiting for the curtain to rise. I had heard great things about the movie and I thought the play would follow along it’s line. As the play started I found myself not really getting fully into it but by the second half I found myself enjoying it more. The message I took from play was to not run from your roots and to be true to yourself, there’s no point in hiding where you come from since the apple never really falls too …show more content…
The moment Elizabeth Benning, played by Chelsea Emma Franko, stepped….well, rolled into the scene I felt a smile grow on my face. Her comedic timing was always right on spot and I felt as if she was hitting all her cues. It felt like a scene from a movie and the lighting effects in that specific set were amazing. The lighting accentuated the actors in great ways, my favorite scene was when they brought the Monster to life. The thunder was great, the sound was right on cue. The switches that Igor had to turn on and off shined brightly and right when he flipped them. It brought that scene to life and added to their acting. I liked the fact that they had a live orchestra to join with the actors. While sometimes the sound was off, like when Igor knocks on the door of the castle, the sound was a few seconds off and it detracted from the comedy of it, since he is so small he has to jump and hold on to the knockers. The costume design fit well with the setting of the play and it was all very cohesive with the ensemble and the rest of the main cast, there wasn’t a disconnect with costumes at any time. I especially loved the fact that Elizabeth stayed in red throughout the play and was the only one in that
