Our daily lives rely on memory, thus memory is critical in all that we do. Our memory has the ability to retain information about past events as well as helps us plan our future events. We should be aware of how our memories work, what changes occur in memory over time, and how we can improve our memories as we get older. Most changes in memory are normal changes of the aging process, or may be caused by treatable or temporary problems. When we use a memory strategy, we perform mental activities that can help us improve our encoding and retrieval. With this, most memory strategies help us remember what we have learned n the past.

Visualizing is to see an image in our head without actually seeing it. Method Loci is the greatest memory strategy for this especially if you are good at visualizing. An example would be visualizing the water cycle, where you see the rain hitting the ground, then flowing towards the rivers and oceans, then “seeing” the sun hitting and evaporating the water and forming clouds. When we can visualize information, it becomes remember-able and meaningful. Positive affect increases our ability to organize ideas in multiple ways and to access other cognitive perspectives. In many of the experiments supporting this, participants were assigned randomly to either a neutral or positive effect condition, and positive affect was induced in many different ways, such as receiving a small gift, reading funny cartoons, experiencing success on an ambiguous task, or watching a few minutes of a comedy film (Yang, H., Yang, S., & Isen, A.
