One of the best years in cinema history to highlight some of the excellent, original films in the science fiction genre was in 1997. In that year, the term “movie blockbuster” was used a lot, and rightly, so, for superb films that were highly profitable and a commercial success worldwide, that included the Men In Black, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, and The Fifth Element. Other noteworthy sci-fi films during that same year contained a wide and interesting spectrum of themes like Starship Troopers, Contact, Batman & Robin, Alien: Resurrection, Cube, Mimic, Event Horizon, and Gattaca. However, no other sci-fi film at that same time managed to capture the humor and action quite as well as in Men In Black. The film takes the urban myth of the supposedly, mysterious encounter of the men in black, whose part of a shady government agency that appears during sightings of UFOs and aliens. In the film, Men In Black follows secret “government agents dealing with truculent aliens living on Earth” (Scalzi 22), the story’s inspiration is based on a classic conspiracy theory that goes back to the first appearance of the so-called men in black since the late 1940s.
