In the movie Lars And The Real Girl, the main character suffers from a mental illness left undiagnosed throughout the movie. Lars had an abnormal childhood which contributed greatly to how he acts in his adult life. His mental condition prohibits him from obtaining any real human relationships which results in him imagining a fake girlfriend and projecting his feelings through her. Although his mental state is unordinary everyone in the town accepts his illness and play along with his imagination. However, his illness still affects his daily life and how he views other people. Lars is very antisocial and does not enjoy human interaction. In the movie, his neighbors try to convince him to join them in dinner but he does anything he can to avoid it. In one of the scenes the wife, Karen, tackles him to the ground in order to convince him to join her and her husband for dinner. Also, at work one of his co workers has crush on him but because of his illness Lars turns down every offer made by his coworker to hangout. The co worker, Margot, does not get through to Lars until the end of the movie. As a child that is one of the first relationships you form and if that trust is broken it is hard to regain trust with anyone else so someone with this disorder might tend to shy away from social activities and get anxious about any sort of human interaction.
