Mental strength is it the life saving or life ending drive during trauma? Elie Wiesel made the point of mental strength to show what mental strength does for Elie and his life. In ¨Night¨, Elie Wiesel demonstrates people being capable of a surprising amount of mental strength through during trauma during several camp selections.
Elie discovers a new mental strength as heś being separated from his family but quickly realizes he has his father with him. ¨I saw then walking farther and farther away; mother was stroking my sisterś blonde hair, as if she was protecting her.¨Elie is separated from his family, his mom and two sisters walked away and watch in fear but then remebered he has his father with him. But then as Elie moves along to the camp he considers a life changing choice.

Elie was in the good health line and his father was in the bad health line. “The SS officers were doing the… well to the right. My father sent to the left. I ran after him.” Elie realized once his father was in the bad health line he ran after him so he wouldn’t lose him, but while Elie ran after his father he caused a mass confusion and once he got his father to the good health line he now looked back and saw multiple people made it in the good health line but also some people were caught trying to switch lines. Those people who tried switching lines were killed, but Elie got his father to some safety so his father will live and fight and use the mental strength that helps them fight through the pain.
