Mercutio's Comedy

Romeo and Juliet could be considered a comedy some evidence of this is in mercutio's character who brings comedic relief. Some proof to this is on page 734 line numbers 19 and 20: “More than the prince of cats. he’s the courageous captain of compliments. He fights as you sing. “Some other examples are page 736 line 56:“Nay, i am the very pink of courtesy.”My last example of Mercutio’s character's role as comic relief is on page 751 line 82: “Come sir you passado.” The reason people refer to romeo and juliet as a comedy is because even though there is death and love it is just so unrealistic and the only reason it ends up so bad is because of a mailman that's a second to late and juliet waking up a little too late causing romeo to drink the poison.the reason it’s funny is cause a few seconds and both of the them would still be alive and everything would be fine. One of those reasons is there are a lot of unbelievable and ridiculous scenarios such as the mailman just barely missing romeo causing them to both die in the long run. Another example of an unrealistic scenario is when juliet wakes up a second to late causing romeo to drink the poison. The last ridiculous and totally unbelievable scenario in romeo and juliet is when juliet kills herself simply because romeo died.

My last point towards how romeo and juliet could be considered a comedy and not a tragedy is that it could be a comical farce of the typical tragedy. For example when they get married almost the day after they met even though they were only around the age of 14. Also how they will do the stupidest things for love such as committing suicide and doing illegal things just for something as simple as saying hi to each
