In Gregor’s family, he is the only family member working. His salary is not only to repay the debt of his family but to support his whole family. This add a lot of stress and pressure to Gregor and keeps him moving. Gregor believes if he stop working, the family will fall apart and that working is his top priority. But to his surprise, his family can survive without him working as he was turned into a bug. The family he knew that was dependent on him became independent without his support. His family rented out a room and his sister found a job and started to work.
