Most everyone, at some point in their life, has partaken in an english class during their education. Among the many subjects that are taught, metaphors are a common topic in lecture. Metaphors are comparable to rape and sexual assault in that the reality is not always on the surface. In many cases, the pain that victims burden can only be illustrated through unlikely allusions. Poems and songs often use these types of analogies to paint the readers and/or listeners a picture into the story. The powerful work written by Marge Piercy, “The Rape Poem,” is an excellent tribute to survivors of sexual assault within the realms of literary cannon.
