Was the United States Justified in Going to War With Mexico?

It was destiny, not inhumanity or invasion. The war with Mexico was in 1846 until 1848. The war was ignited by the 16 soldiers slaughtered on what was disputed land and Texas’s statehood. So, was the war with Mexico justified or not? The United States was justified in going to war with Mexico because manifest destiny, the people supported the war, and the legislature supported it. One reason the war with Mexico was justified was because a belief called Manifest Destiny. Manifest Destiny was a belief that it was God himself’s will to have the United States to stretch from the North to the West. Document A states that Manifest Destiny was a huge part in the war. Document D states that says Charles Sumner, a state legislature from Massachusetts, had the people of Massachusetts on his side. Also in Document B it shows the results of voting to go to war with Mexico: in the House of Representatives 174 people voted yes and only 14 voted no, that is about a 90% difference. This evidence shows that Constitutionally the United States was justified. A third and final reason on how the Mexican-American war is justified is that the government supported the idea of retaliation. Document A states that 16 American soldiers were slaughtered at the hands of Mexican soldiers. This aggravated many American’s because these Americans were killed on “American soil.” The legislative branch held a vote which the results from the House of Senate were in Document D. The results of the poll, 40 yes and 2 no, this is a 95% difference between the voters. So, as usual, majority won and the U.S. went to war. The United States was justified in going to war with Mexico because of Manifest Destiny, the people supporting the war, and the legislature supporting the war. It is important for the United States to be justified in going to war with Mexico because we might not be able to have the states and the country we have today. This an important topic for today because if this war did not happen we might not have the West
