As a kid, we are taught to believe and listened to everything our parents say. We establish a belief system and mindset that determines the way we should pursue life. We live through life based on our view of self-concept and establishment of our beliefs. Although when we are young most of our beliefs are influenced by family members or parents. It is still possible to change one's beliefs based on personal experiences with the unknown and what the media displays. But what really formed my belief system and culture was my family members and the type of education I was exposed to.

I was only eight years old when I came to this country. At this age, adapting to a new culture wasn't that difficult. But it was challenging due to the fear of not fitting in. When I came to this country, the main element that helped form my belief was the education. The school system taught me the English language, it showed me how to interact with other people. It also presented me to different holidays that the American people celebrated. For examples, Columbus and veterans day were something new that I discovered. I also notice that most Hispanic traditions followed closely with the American tradition. Christmas and new years were among the closest traditions that followed Hispanic culture. Learning the American culture was something that I needed to know because without it I would be looked as an outsider in this country. My perception of when I came to this country was to achieve higher education. What really helped achieve growth in my perception was the vast environment of educated people.
