Management Practices

Management practices of leading, organizing, staffing, and controlling are implemented into every workplace. At Suncrest Home Health these management practices are strongly implemented to keep the company running efficiently. Even though you may not realize it, each practice plays an important part in how your company functions. Planning is an important part of the management practice. “Planning is the systematic process in which managers make decisions about future activities and the key goals that the organization will pursue.”( The Five functions of effective management, 2013). At Suncrest Home Health, they deal with a lot of strategic planning. They are constantly focusing on planning for the future. They want to ensure that each patient has the absolute best service at the best price. They look at the external and internal environments to decide on what the companies strength and weaknesses are. There are more that deals with the external environment than the internal environment because most of the work for Suncrest is provided in the patients home. Suncrest determines which goals are best for the company and chooses strategies and operational goals to succeed in making their patients comfortable and happy. Part of planning is the mission statement. At Suncrest Home Health the mission statement states “ We are dedicated to providing compassionate, quality services to our patients and their families while recognizing the valuable relationship with our employees, referral services and the communities we serve.” (Suncrest Healthcare, 2013). In healthcare the strategic business unit that is held together by a common thread is patient quality and satisfaction. Strategic planning for home health is to create goals for long term and short term patient care in the comfort of their own homes. Our company comes up with the best strategy that fits the patient so that they can get the exact care that they are requiring. The operational plans are set up to direct the daily activities for the patient according to their specific needs. The textbook states that “Core competence represents the most proficiently performed internal activity that is central to the firms strategy and competiveness.”(The five functions of effective management, 2013). For our company this allows us to have a company that is driven from the core of the company to provide quality healthcare to those in need that best fits their needs and requirements. The hard part when it comes to healthcare is the budget. When you are working with healthcare you are on a firm budget because a lot of the money that provides our services comes from the government. We have to find cost efficient ways to provide quality healthcare that fits each individual’s needs. Our organization is all about helping others that are having a hard time helping themselves. We have to provide healthcare to those in need but, at the same time we have to keep the patients to feel as independent as possible. When it comes to organizing the company it consists of the job designs which is office personnel , nurses, nursing assistants, and physical therapists. Each job is departmentalized and designed to give the most outstanding care. Staffing at Suncrest Home Health is set up by selection of education, years of experience, physical and technical skills, personality characteristics, and legal requirements. Each nursing assistant has to have a high school diploma or a GED, a nursing assistant license from the state, experience preferred, loving and caring personalities and must suit all of the legal requirements by the state. The company has a hiring process that starts with job announcements. After putting in your application for employment, the company starts by verifying your information and checking references and past employment history. From there
