Michael Clayton, from the film Michael Clayton, is the protagonist. He is the lead character that drives the story; however, unlike traditional protagonists Michael does not share the same characteristics. For example, in classic western the protagonist or “good guy” could be found in the sheriff trying to clean up a town and rid it of its ruthless robbers; the “bad guys” or antagonists. These particular type of characters are one dimensional. Their character traits and aspects of their personalities lean towards being all good; having no failings and being of high character, or all bad. Michael Clayton broke this conventional mold by having a variety of qualities in his personality; including bad traits, good ones, and everything inbetween.
