After reading the Journal extract by Jacques on meeting the Micmac Indians (1534) I’ve developed a better understanding of Europeans attitudes and motivation for exploration of the new world. A French explorer by the name of Jacques Cartier documented his experience when he arrived to the Gulf of St. Lawrence. (Text D-10) According to his document he made this voyage in order to secure riches as well as a path to China.
