Many elementary schools have a time during the day called recess, where the children go outside and can run around and play. As students move into middle school, however, recess is usually not continued. In my opinion, middle school students should have recess sometime every day during school, because this would allow students to release pent up energy from the day, give them a time to relax from the stress of classes, and give them a time to work on homework if they would not have time to do so at their home.
One way allowing middle school students to have recess would benefit them is by having a way to release energy they have built up over the school day. In most classes, students are expected to sit still and listen, taking notes and being quiet. As the school day continues, the children could become anxious from having to sit still for so long, and they would feel a need to run around. If recess was allowed in middle schools, the students would be able to exercise and let out the built up energy. Some students have many after school activities, have demanding after school jobs, or live in a family situation that deprives them of time to work on school work, which can all lead to the student not turning work in on time. If a student is in this situation, recess could be a time for them to catch up on all their missing or current schoolwork. Consequently, the child would not have as much missing work, and would not feel as stressed about finding a time at home to get work done. Even if a student had plenty of time at home to work on homework, getting their work done during recess could allow them more time to relax at home, or work on chores they need to finish at their
