Midsummer Night's Dream Compare And Contrast Pyramus And Thisbe

In the play Midsummer Night’s Dream there was Lysander and Hermia who loved each other but couldn't be together. When comparing them to a greek mythology story they are very similar to Pyramus and Thisbe. They have many similarities, but also some differences. It will be interesting to find out what impact they had on the play, because they were very important characters. Even though they are two different stories I think they compliment each other very well.

In Pyramus and Thisbe’s original story they were a couple in love but their families hated each other. They always whispered to each other through a crack in the wall until they couldn't take it anymore and decided to elope. Thisbe shows up under the tree where they were supposed to meet but is stopped by a lion dripping blood from his mouth. She throws her scarf down and runs. Later Pyramus comes and sees the bloody scarf and thinks his lover is dead. Seeing all of the blood Pyramus just assumes Thisbe is dead, so he takes his knife and stabs himself. Later Thisbe

The one that stuck out the most was love. Shakespeare shows us that love can make you foolish or make you do crazy things. The characters had a potion used on them which had them chasing each other around the woods for almost the whole play. That showed you how love can make you look foolish and do stupid things. the main message he was trying to get across was that love conquers all. Even with the potion that made them do crazy things, and parents who didn't want them to be together they still prevailed, and ended up with the one they loved.
Overall I think Midsummer's Night Dream was a great play. Shakespeare did a great job getting his message across with using allusion to help readers understand and make connections to what he was trying to portray. One of his strong points was how he was able to get a powerful message across while still making the play a
