Military Mem Analysis

After seeing the topic of the posting for this week, I struggled in deciding how I was going to answer it. I decided that I would give a disclaimer first before trying to relate something that could be construed as bias or uniformed. This is my disclaimer: I am a veteran. I served for over 20 years in the United States Army. During that time I was deployed on several occasions, and spent almost half of my time ( 9 years in total) at overseas locations throughout the world.
Not only did I retire from the Military, I am also disabled as a result of my service. This gives me the distinction of being a retired and disabled veteran.
I have decided that for this post I will present three things. First, a social media posting I did a few years back. Second, the end part of a speech I made to a graduating class of Soldiers

The meme thanking service members, in various forms, for their service, and how their sacrifice will not be forgotten, and so on, and so on, etc. I can see the value in the simplicity of the meme idea. A simple picture with encouraging words and mostly hollow promises or thanks for the things you do. Although these memes may make the person posting them on their page feel good, and might even garner some likes, the truth is they feel as they appear; hollow and devoid of any meaningful dialogue. So, instead of hitting the share or like button, as many in our culture are inclined to do, I will instead send this personal note to all the men and women serving. Not just the many that are actively away from their families, but also for the many that have served, and continue to serve. I will never forget the sacrifices that all of these great men and women have made throughout our countries
