Since the drawback on the war in Iraq and Afghanistan the army has downsized tremendously. The numbers are constantly getting higher on the amount of soldiers that they need to cut down on and not enough soldiers are getting out. As a result the army is trying to get rid of Military Occupational Specialties (MOS) that are no longer needed because of the drawdown on the war. I am currently assigned as a 12H Construction Engineer Supervisor in the United States Army, and my MOS is currently at risk of being removed from the active duty component. The Army Engineer corps is a very diverse branch and is very much needed in the United States Army. I currently oppose to getting rid of a particular MOS because it will one day be needed again and if it isn’t apart of army then we will have to hire civilians to accomplish a given task that could have been accomplished by soldiers. I understand this will lower the number of personnel that can be allowed within that MOS and change promotion percentages but it will also save the army money over time. As a soldier I never understood why the army paid civilians to do task that be completed by their own personnel. I understand that soldiers will not be able to complete major construction projects but there are some projects that we can complete, such as simple plumbing or even building
