What if you got a dog and had it for a few years than got it taken away from you? You would be very aggravated and sad, right? Well this is happening to a lot of veterans. They will get a dog to work with them then when they retire the government won't let them keep their dog. The veterans have formed a strong bond with their dog. Trusted is key to saving lives. I believe that veterans should be able to keep their dogs after they retire because they formed a close bond and helped save lives. Veterans and their dogs have an unbreakable bond. According to the Scope article, "As Zenit's handler, Jose had plenty to keep him busy. He attended to the dog's every need, from grooming to making sure Zenit's didn't get dehydrated. Dogs can help with a variety of things. Getting something for their handler, and relieving stress. The Scope video says that even touching a dog helps relieve some stress. The Scope video, "Beyond the Story: Into the world of Military Working Dogs" also says that military working dogs that are adopted by their handlers, help relieve post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). To illustrate PTSD, Jose Armenta was gravely injured in Afghanistan by an improvised explosive device, or an IED by stepping on it. During recovery, he was begging for his dog, which caused PTSD. When Zenit came to see his handler, the PTSD was relieved. Some people, though, believe that veterans seeing their military dog may not relive PTSD, and bring back horrifying memories from war.
