Mindfulness When it comes to really listening to someone, there is a great deal involved. People do not realize that it takes being mindful in the conversation. Mindfulness is being fully present in the moment and it also enhances the effectiveness of the other person’s communication. (Wood, J. 2010). Most individuals only hear what you are saying but never really listen. Medical personal have gotten lethargic about listening to the concerns of their patients. Doctors should especially be mindful with their patients. When we go to the doctor for an emergency or just a routine visit, are our doctors really being mindful in the conversation? Everyone will go for a doctor visit at one time or another. They are always asking for your medical history starting from the time you were born. Women, on the other hand, have their own set of questions that are ask during a routine visit. For example, “how many children do you have?” “Well, I have two children, one twenty-five and the other seven”. Another question is; “have you had any surgeries?” “Yes, a hysterectomy ten years ago.” If they were being mindful in the conversation, they should have responded with, how do you have a seven year old, if you had a hysterectomy ten years ago? When we go to the doctor, for an emergency or just a check up, we expect the staff to be totally in the moment while we are explaining our situation, not just hear what we are saying.
