Minnesota was the biggest iron ore producer in the U.S. during the 1890s. We had tons of acres and mines in Northern Minnesota. Most of it started with Henry Oliver. It started by him investing in small mines in 1892.

The iron mining was expensive so it started small and then grew. It grew but lots of wealthy industrialists investing into the small mining business. It also grew by those investors making the mines get more miners and making mines bigger and getting more tools. Which lead to them being large iron ore producers.
