In any, story, novel, play, or literature, there are characters that exist simply to shape and support the roles of the main characters; these characters are called minor characters. Minor characters can come in many forms, which include family, friends, or even strangers. These minor characters are crucial to literature because their actions and dialogue provoke reactions from the main characters. We judge a main character not only by the way the narrator describes them, but how they react in different situations. Sometimes, minor characters can be the most crucial to a plot. Piggy from Lord of the Flies, and Mercutio from Romeo and Juliet, are the important minor characters in each literature.

Piggy was unlike every character in the book, he had morals, intelligence, and courage. From the start of the book, Piggy was not taken seriously. He was always bullied by Jack, and neglected by Ralph. He was never seriously offended by the way the other boys treated him, this would not stop him from trying to keep peace among the boys. Although Piggy was never leader of the boys on the island, he always had strong feedback, and wise insight during assemblies. He was a crucial character to the story because he represented civilization, peace, and order. Many of the boys neglected him because they did not want to be reminded of parents, police, and authority. The boys wanted to be savages but Piggy would not let them. Piggy was able to keep peace among the boys for a while, but everything changed after Jack made his own tribe. Jack eventually stole Piggy’s glasses. Piggy was courageous and went to Jack to take them back; he would not tolerate any more bullying. Piggy always stood up for what was right, even if it was not the popular belief. Here, Piggy stood up for his glasses, and demanded them back; he was enforcing his authority. Instead of returning the glasses, Jack had Roger kill Piggy. Piggy’s death was not just an ordinary death. His death stuck out to the readers and to Ralph, a main character in the novel. One could argue that Piggy died a heroic death. When Piggy died,
