Minor Characters In The Outsiders

In a book called the Outsiders written by S.E Hinton, there is a guy named Ponyboy, also know as Pony. Pony is the main character in the book and during Pony's whole life his community was divided into two groups, the greasers which Pony was and the socs. The socs are rich and people who get away with things while the greasers get blamed for everything and have very little money. In Ponyboy's life he faces war between the socs and greasers. So here are some of Ponyboys traits that make him different and special compared to all his family and friends.

The greasers in Ponyboy's community don't usually get an education or even care for one, but Ponyboy does. Ponyboy is very smart and loves to go to school, even tho Darry tells Pony he has no head and he should work at a gas station, but that does not stop Pony from learning. On page 4 is says how Ponyboy gets good grades and he studies hard. Ponyboy's older brother darry went to college but had to drop out and get a job because Pony's parents died. Soda also known as Sodapop is Ponyboy's other brother who is the middle child who dropped out of school. When Ponyboy is talking to Johnny he say he wants to move to the countryside and get away from his neighborhood (page 48). Throughout the whole book Pony talks about getting away and he has hope that someday he will get out of his divided community. One of Ponyboy’s biggest issue with his community is the social divide (page 134). Ponyboy dreams of the social divided ending and he has never stopped. When Johnny is in the hospital because of his burn he keeps on dreaming that Johnny will be okay and everything is going to go back to normal (page 121).
