Discrimination: How Does Discrimination Affect Minorities in the Social World? Is There a Solution? One most likely has been discriminated against, discriminates against others or has seen the act of discrimination. Discrimination is defined as having different behaviors, mainly negative, toward a different person or social groups. In other words, this is a negative behavior in which one may use the technique of us versus them (Baron & Branscombe, 2012).
The meaning of minority is to be labeled and added to a group that is not dominant in the social world. Minorities that are citizens in the United States of America are considered Black, Native American, Hispanic, Chicano, Asian, and many more (Washington). An example of discrimination,

This also leads to minorities not being treated medically the same way as White people. During medical procedures, minorities may be treated with fewer procedures or may be given extra procedures to an extreme compared to White patients. A study was found that Blacks are more likely to get a limb amputated, get testes and tissues removed; instead, there are other ways to cure a problem for the body. Adding to this issue, Blacks are more likely to have lower survival rates because of not receiving appropriate procedures like bypass for the reason of a certain disease. For these reasons, it relates to Medicare insurance issues (Williams, 2006).
In addition, living in a bad environment is not the only reason why discrimination affects minorities’ health. Job insecurity is the reason why some may have health issues. If one loses his or her job, this leads to poor physical and mental health. For example, because the employee lost his/her job, stress arises and may cause one to eat salty foods which causes higher blood pressure. This is the result of poor self-rated health (Anderson & Fullerton, 2013). If society can discriminate health outcomes of minorities, they can also do the same for
