Doubting someone just because of their looks is never the key. Many people tend to judge disabled athletes just because the person looks different. The public tends to believe the fabricated rumors and it spreads and what spreads is what the public believes to be true. People seem to get the wrong impression by hearing rumors. Many people use the phrase,“Don’t judge a book by it’s cover”, without really knowing the passion and depth of what the phrase holds which is why stereotypes and misconceptions are really common in our society nowadays. A big misconception towards disabled athletes are considered to be worthless in sports by others and team members. But disabled athletes are not any different. Disabled athletes are just as good as any full bodied athlete. Competing in sports is not only for “normal people with all body parts” but for everyone. According to the website article Lifebeyondlimbs.com, a misconception many disabled athletes get is people think getting around in crutches is a miserable and torturous chore that renders a disabled athlete immobile. For the disabled athletes who use crutches, it has become habitual and in contrast to what people think crutches have provided mobility and independence to disabled athletes. Another misconception is people think disabled athletes are unable to engage in any sport or physical activity. For example, like walking down a city block people assume disabled athletes always need help getting on a elevator, walking down the stairs or whether carrying something heavy..
