The book Miss Brenda and the Love ladies, was a story narrated by the author Brenda Spahn. Sphan, an entrepreneur and businesswoman, was a very wealthy woman. One day when on the verge of going to prison for a crime she did not commit, Sphan turned her life around and began to work on the calling God had put within her. Rehabilitating women whom were incarcerated and had been victims of abuse.
Mrs. Spahn lived first hand with a group of seven ladies who were ex convicts. These ladies had committed all sorts of crimes, and were let out of prison for the first time. These women themselves have tried everything to stop the difficult position in which they stand, but they the substance is stronger than them. Prisons’ that have focus groups in which the inmates can be apart are found to be very supportive. In a chapter on the book Religious Faith in Correctional Context, Kent Kerley expounds about faith within prison and the changes it can bring. “Beyond describing the claims of change to their criminal/deviant lifestyles, it is important to discover what changes were made and how they were made” (167). When inmates learn about God, and surround themselves with believers that are encouragement along the way. In the book Miss Brenda and the love ladies, several of the ladies were change after their experience in the faith based program.
Spahn explains how the women she first worked with were out doing other things in life because the program was such an impact to them. Quincey, one of the first love ladies was now “…a hotel manager at a major hotel chain. She is so popular with the guest they specifically ask for her to handle their reservations” (220).
