It is devastating that at some point of in life as people grow older they can become disconnected with the outside world. A person can become so lonely that there only point of communication is a delusion. At what point have you fallen into a dull never changing routine. The story “Miss Brill” by Katherine Mansfield is about an elderly woman who struggles facing the reality of her existence in life. Miss brill has a strong desire to feel acceptance of the world around her, thought it is every human beings natural desire to feel about of a society to be recognized and feel acceptance form the people around you (Tkrox, Journal). They compare to one another and have striking similarities. Miss Brill’s home is compared to a cupboard of a room and the fur lives inside a box, very much the same thing. Miss Brill also comes alive and goes out every Sunday spending her time in the park. Miss Brill’s fur only comes out of the box when she takes it out weekly to go to the park. Her fur also looks at her with its sad eyes almost saying ‘what is happening’ and ‘why am I here’, though Miss Brill doesn’t ask these question in her own life, she very well should. Miss Brill avoids the truth in her life by dressing up, putting on her fur and going every Sunday to the park because she felt as she had to as they were very important parts of her life. At the park she felt as though she was in a play and she she played an important actress in it. Going to the park every Sunday was Miss Brills way of escaping the true reality of her life and made Miss brill feel more important and welcomed then she really was. Although both Miss Brill and Emily tried to escape reality it became obvious that they both could
