Mission Log: Exodus (RD) “Launch is a go, start the ignition procedure, detach bolt anchors,” said Vice-captain, Charles over at his station on the main deck. The shuttle rumbles to life as preparations are made to lift off into the far reaches of space. As Vice-captain Charles begins the countdown to launch, “60…59…58…57…,” Captain Adams begins to recall the events that led up to this moment. The Earth had become uninhabitable after humanity had polluted its air until it was unbreathable, its water until it was undrinkable, and its soil where crops would no longer grow. Humanity started to die off by the millions due to starvation and sickness brought about by these conditions. Hope and moral all across the Earth were deteriorating at an …show more content…
World leaders came together to decide a plan of action in order to figure out what must be done. Various methods were proposed to reverse the damage that had been dealt to the Earth, but according to the top researchers in their respective fields, such processes would take hundreds of years. The damage was done, we needed to find another way to continue our existence as species. Fortunately, a representative of the United States came forth and stated that NASA has discovered a way make Mars a habitable planet to live on and probes that were previously sent out to study this world have determined that its environment has some of the needed properties to support life, such as a water, solid ground, heated geothermal activity, and an a bit of atmosphere that can protect them from the cosmic rays of space. These cosmic rays [1] consisted of charged particles, such as protons, electrons, and atomic nuclei that originate from unknown regions, potentially thousands of lightyears away from Earth. After testing it was found that the rays are made up of 90 percent hydrogen protons and 9 percent were helium alpha particles, which are invisible to the naked eye in low densities. One problem with this plan was that not only had humanity polluted the planet, but
