Express and Reflect Essay The Mississippi River is 2,350 miles long, running through and along ten states, beginning at Lake Itasca in Minnesota, and draining into the Gulf of Mexico. Traveling Iowa and Minnesota water trails that empty into the Mississippi has been typical for me since before I could tie my shoes. My adventurous spirit has always led me to some wild ideas. One idea sparked inside of me when visiting the Mississippi headwaters years ago. I want to travel the Mississippi River from source to sea. Canoeing the entire Mississippi River is a difficult task. I will need a lot of time off in order to travel over 2,000 miles. The long journey will also require me to be in good physical shape because some days will demand over 50 miles of paddling. With the trip being so long, I need some assistance from family and friends to exchange gear and food en route. Gear will be useful and plentiful, so I am going to need a decent amount of money in order to take this trip. I will need a lot of help in …show more content…
Paddling through 2,350 miles of diverse terrain will give me a deep knowledge of the Mississippi River. The path flows through rural areas as well as a few major cities such as Minneapolis, St. Louis and New Orleans. Along the way, I will stop and visit local towns and restaurants; therefore, experiencing the culture and people wherever I go. These interactions will expand my knowledge of life around the United States. Canoeing the Mississippi will give me many experiences and teach me about the culture along the way. Canoeing the Mississippi River is not easy, but it is very rewarding and that is why it is on my bucket list. It requires a lot of help from others, some money, and is physically demanding.
