Misunderstand Communication Skills

Society sometimes misunderstands the communication skills used by the deaf and blind. Since they lack one of major sensory, they must compensate by conforming to an alternate form of communication. This includes communicating by braille for the blind and sign language for the deaf. It is not a spoken language but instead a way in which they are capable to communicate. The deaf and blind are often judged by society because they are thought of as “different”. Actually, the deaf and blind are not that much different than someone who is capable. They tend to use braille as a way to communicate. Braille is a system of dots that is read by the tips of your fingers for people with no vision. Many public places to this day have these raised dots on bathroom doors and on many other public facilities. Deaf people also use a white cane. A white cane is a long cane used to detect any objects surrounding the person. By using these communication methods, it allows the blind independence and the ability to conform to society. Although they lack the ability to see, they are often misunderstood because of the ways they they communicate. Some may perceive the blind as helpless and need care at all times but neglect to realize how their are capable of sustaining themselves. It is important to know and understand the basic communication skills available to the blind. Knowledge and understanding is important in order understand people with disabilities. Luckily, society is beginning to understand and accept the limited ways in which they are able to communicate. This is an important requirement before judging the disabled. Hopefully, in the future, all communities and groups will be able to understand all communications skills used by the
