The Palmer raids were a series of raids that took place in the following years after WW1, when communism,anarchism and radicals were at an all time high. The Raids themselves was a fragment of the First Red Scare which was a period that symbolize national fear of Bolshevism and anarchism brought on by previous events including the Russian Revolution and the bombings of prominent political figures. In response United States Attorney General A. Mitchell Palmer also a target of the anarchist bombings lead the unwarranted and illegal raids on suspected anarchist. Mitchell Palmer wanted to create a special task force that would stop the terror which swept through America. After going before congress in hope of getting more funding towards the Department Of Justice and being rejected, he sought the audience of the senate convincing them that what happened in Russian is going to happen here with communist taking over. With his new funding from the senate He assembled a new General Intelligence Division (later named the Federal Bureau of Investigation) within the Department of Justice with responsibility for investigating the strength of radical political organizations in the United States.Palmer used the laws set down in 1917 to deport members of the WWI. When the Palmer Raid began, its two main targets were the Communist Party, and the Communist Labor Party. In 1918, after the end of the war, all the groups which opposed the war came under fire.
