Mob mentality is also called herd mentality, and it describes how people are easily influenced by other people/friends to behave in certain ways, follow trends, or purchase items.
Some examples are the Holocaust, Salem Witch Trials, and the Second Red Scare.
The actions of the villagers falls under mob mentality because they blinding went along with the Lottery and didn’t really protest. We think Shirley Jackson was saying how Americans have a mob mentality because we tend to follow along with what a lot of people are doing so that we fit in.
