There are many successful Asian Americans today who enforces the belief of becoming a model minority. Through hard work and perseverance, the asian community became model citizens and set standards for others to be like them. With this success, the hard work, preparation and lifestyle is masked. Sometimes others aren’t able to live up to the expectations of becoming a model minority. With films like Linsanity and Better Luck Tomorrow, we are able to see individuals combat the model minority myth, while books like Tigermom, reinforces the importance of it. In Linsanity, comes an aspiring NBA Player who have worked really hard to be in his position now. He portrays most of the Asian stereotypes of being nerdy, shy, not really good looking and even a basketball bench warmer. Justin and his group of friends tend to live a life as a model minority during the day but become criminals by night. These students rebel their suburban lifestyle by using parties, drugs and alcohol as outlets of their boredom. From this, they are able to combat the model minority myth of being honest and immaculate students. The heavy weighing down standards set for them caused these students to branch out differently and become someone totally opposite. Amy talks about her childhood of having a Tiger Mom and her irregular lifestyle as a child. Her perks of being a youth were taken away as she wasn’t able to attend any sleepovers, no boyfriends and an insane amount of extracurricular classes. However instead of mourning about her youth, she thanks her parents for being extremely hard on her. She understood that her parents came to America with nothing and that they wanted the best for their daughter. Not only was she graceful, but Amy later on installed what she learned from her parents to her children now. Amy, who is an author as well as a lawyer have reinforced the teachings of becoming a model minority citizen and exceeding other people. She was never satisfied with average and being like everybody else. Her early teachings of being shamed upon by getting an A-, helped influence her to strive for more and to push her skill set to the maximum. All that being said, she merged well in the system of becoming a model minority citizen. The model minority is still very present in everyday life. With many second generation parents influencing their children's, we see many more strive to become part of this group. With this acceptance, comes the rejection of being a model minority. With films that shows such as Linsanity and Better Luck Tomorrow, we see the rebellion of this lifestyle and
