The modern day view on animals
All over the U.S. the typical house “pet” is thought of in many different ways. People argue whether they should get a cat or a dog or even a pet fish, but it never crosses their mind to get a pet horse or pig. The picture has many interpretations that are seen in the eyes of many. The picture depicts societies views on animals and how they are seen in society. In this picture it depicts a farmer with a bloody apron on while petting a cat with a food bowl in front of him and an apron around him. The farmer is holding a knife in one hand while petting the cat with another, on the right side of the picture are the animals that you would typically see in a barn and that are often used for meals. The satirical image is an allegory for the thought of the modern day pet and how we view them in society. The cat is shown being treated superior over the animals pictured on the right. The animals on the right are the animals that society considers animals that feed us. The picture uses symbols to help us better relate to his overall meaning. In the hand of the farmer is a knife, this stands out to the eye as a weapon that butchers use to kill animals. This main idea relays to the insight of the thesis because it shows how society as a whole views the different animals in our society. It shows our view on how we treat our modern day animals; we treat some with royalty while others are stuck outside in a barn. The cat is set on a higher pedestal but for what cause, they should be the same in the eyes of everyone. What makes a cat different then a cow or a horse? Its one simple answer, food, we do not think about eating a cat or dog because they are more of a common house
