Monet’s Water Lilies The wind ripples the soft flowing water. The water lilies swish, creating extra ruffles in the water. A frog reaches his destination and stops to nap on a small lily pad. As if the lily knows of his visitor, it stops swaying and calms. Beneath the surface of the water, small minnows flit through the water. Only when the light catches them correctly can you see them. A small piece of plant falls into the water. One miniature fish catches a glimpse and wriggles over to eat it. Each piece of this peaceful pond barely recognizes the others existence. Algae grows, because of a block in the source of the crystal clear water. Mosquitos buzz and disturb the serenity of the lily pond. No one visits when the beauty is not evident, only when the pond shines does it see visitors. Our frog is back to napping, his lily friend, still. The minnows, still swishing about. Everyone oblivious to anything wrong in the world. When things go wrong they swim away, and up the stream feeding the pond. Each and every year, the minnows inhabit the pond. The day they don’t, is the day when the pond has been utterly destroyed. By what, the creatures of the pond wonder. Hopefully this day never comes, when earthly beauty is destroyed. Each living thing, big or small, has this thought in the back of their mind. When frogs help minnows, and a lily helps a frog, goodness emanates from the pond. The different animals help each other, not because they personally know the other, but because they know it’s right and it will benefit the pond’s atmosphere. But, after all, humans can only see and understand so much. If they’d just watch the lilies or sit by for a while, the small creatures, the smallest notions of kindness, and the mere wisp of wind would captivate their attention to the
