For as long as civilizations have existed, people have tried to control as much land as they can. Some notable conquerors include Attila the Hun, Napoleon Bonaparte, and Adolf Hitler, all having conquered vast areas of land in their time. One man, however, managed to overtake more land than the three aforementioned combined in just 65 years: Genghis Khan. Leading the Mongol empire from 1162 to 1227, he brought almost five million square miles of land under Mongol control, which is greater than the areas of the modern United States of America and Mexico combined (DBQ Project).
