There is a lot of controversy on whether or not the Mongols were civilized, or whether they were of a barbaric kind. Several indisputable cases that the Mongols were Barbarians have been brought to light, but then again, there are also various facts that contradict these indisputable cases. In the Mongols DBQ Packet the majority of the documents sways towards the Mongols being civilized and not barbaric. They show the complexity required to be called a civilization even though they may not have lasted as long as other great empires. The Mongols started out as a clan of warriors and their military tactics are brutally intriguing. Using fire to destroy wasn’t something that the Mongols alone used, as a matter of fact, fire has been used in many forms in numerous wars by countless civilizations. Both Document Two and Three tell you how the Mongols organized their military ranks and their intricate battle strategies. Of course Carpini on Doc 3 tells you how deceitful they were tricking their enemies into surrender only to kill them, but they chose not to submit to the current superior force.
