During my high school career, my English class mostly concentrated in teaching students how to effectively convey an argument while using a novel as a primary source. For example, last year, our English class analyzed secondary sources (e.g. academic papers, journals) to provide an explanation for insanity within Hamlet, our primary source. During my sophomore year of high school, my instructor introduced a different writing project: a multi-genre research project. This assignment allowed me to present my topic in various forms of writing, such as poems, recipes, social media pages, diary entries, and collages rather than through a long, expository monologue. In addition, the assignment also forced me to manage my time effectively while handling other assignments from chemistry and pre-calculus. These stories are exhilarating and allow me to escape from the harsh reality where terrorists murder innocent people and large corporations provide corrupt services towards consumers. Unfortunately, I do not have time to read leisurely anymore, and I have never written for a public audience in fear of retaliation and to preserve my reputation.
