The author of Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury, uses diction to portray Montag and Mildred’s marriage as cold, dull, and fake. Their marriage was one that lacked love. Imagining how his room would look, “he felt his way toward his open, separate, and therefore cold bed.” (Bradbury10) Any couple who sleeps separately isn’t a real couple.
