“Pray for the dead and fight like hell for the living”
No one is better suited for person of the decade like our well known Mother Jones. Mary is considered as the ¨most dangerous women in America” (). She is a strong, independent woman who fought for others and never quailed. As our country was entering the industrial economy, she noticed the american were becoming poor, and wages and jobs were decreasing, it was because of their love towards her that she realized she will fight like hell for them. Not only that, but she was also a union activist who founded the Social Democratic Party. Nevertheless, let us look deep into the woman considered a legend to working people.

Her first major strike started in West Virginia with the Great Railroad Strike in 1877 where workers were striking in not letting the trains to run until the wage cut, being the third time that year, was revoked. Not only was that strike successful but it also opened the public’s eyes by drawing their attention into seeing the poor’s hardships. She was finally giving them a voice. Although this may be true, it wasn’t always like that. Some of her strikes were basically a failure. The Haymarket was an example of a riot in which everything was a disaster, police began to charge in and shoot the protesters. And on May 4th, workers were rallied up for the eight-hour uprising when suddenly, during the mayor’s speech, a bomb was set off causing tremendous chaos. Unfortunately, after the Haymarket riot, the number of knights were quickly decreasing and the were singled out to blame for everything. Although things went downhill after that, Jones didn't give up, she continued to fight by joining the United Mine Workers.
During the strike in the coal mines in Pennsylvania in 1873, Mary witness tragic working conditions and children near death of starvation. All her efforts went into improving their conditions, which lead to her nickname known today, “Mother Jones” and “Miners’s Angel”. Since then, no one really calls her Mary instead they call her “Mother Jones”. Although, many see her as the greatest female leader, she was equally feared by others, many wanted to be nowhere near her and desired her dead. If any individual were to take her in their homes, they would be immediately put out since the house belonged to the
