Mother Teresa Mother Teresa once said, “We think sometimes that poverty is only being hungry, naked and homeless. The poverty of being unwanted, unloved and uncared for is the greatest poverty. We must start in our own homes to remedy this kind of poverty.” (Catholic Online) Mother Teresa is known to Catholics as Saint Teresa of Calcutta. She was an Albanian-Indian Roman Catholic nun and Missionary. Mother Teresa is a great example of someone who worked for social justice because, she gave her whole life to the poor of Calcutta, India. She didn’t let anyone get in her way of helping everyone that she was able to. In my life she was one of the most important people who really expanded on social justice and devoted their life in God’s eye. “She has 69 years of service of working for the lord and doing his work. She has about 4500 missionaries of charity worldwide as of 2012. Mother Teresa earned about 125 awards for her works. She also was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979.” (Franciscan Media) She gave everything she ever had to the people of Calcutta. Mother Teresa once said, “I am a little pencil in the hand of a writing God who is sending a love letter to the world.” (Catholic Online) She really believed that she was not the one who needed to be thanked for God’s work. She believed that God was the reason for everything she did, that she was just the “little pencil” of God’s writing. Mother Teresa didn’t want to even be given awards or do ceremonies, because she believed that God was the one who needed to be given the awards and have the ceremonies for him. She only agreed to do her talks and to take the awards so that more people across the world could see and know how the people of Calcutta. She has such a big impact on me and so many others, because I feel that she is one of my favorite saints. I love who she was and everything she has done to help the people of Calcutta, including devoted her life to them. I also really like how she was able to spread and expand on God’s love and word. My grandmother really loved Mother Teresa and she adored her. My grandmother would always have a necklace of Mother Teresa on and she also gave one to my dad, which he wears still to this day. Before my grandmother died, she did everything she could to be just like Mother Teresa by being the most caring and kind that she could. My grandma was such a great and holy person and I think she could her inspiration from Mother Teresa. That’s why I feel that my grandma, Mother Teresa, and I all have a close relationship with each other. Whenever I am really looking for help or just need to tell my grandmother something, I pray to Mother Teresa to talk to her and send my prayers to her. Mother Teresa is one of the best examples of someone’s dedication to social justice with all of her work and inspiration for others.
