Some people deny or think the holocaust was exaggerated. Many times these thoughts are generated by anti semitism. Understanding the past is crucial. We can learn about ourselves and our future as a nation. History speaks about the horrific living conditions for about 6 million Jews before their inevitable. Many people find it close to impossible to understand the living conditions and how people were treated during the holocaust. Most of society finds it difficult to relate to to the holocaust. She didn't think passover was important, she didn't really care about it, and all she wanted to do was stay home and be with her friends. For passover she visits her grandparents house who lived through the holocaust. Hannah was chosen to do the ceremony that you do during passover. One of the steps in the ceremony is to walk through a door that leads to a hallway. As she walks through the door it closes behind her and she winds up waking up in her cousin's house in 1942 and she is known as Chaya. She doesn't know where she is but her cousin tells her she was just very sick and has been sleeping for 2 weeks. Although she is confused and frightened, Hannah concludes that this strange turn of events is just a dream. After her cousin takes her out to see a beautiful wedding, their world begins to crumble. Nazis arrive armed and the Nazi commander explains that all Jews are being resettled for the duration of the war but were really being taken to concentration camps. After a few painful days of traveling, the Jews arrived in the middle of nowhere. Nothing but barracks, mud and dark grey skies. Shortly after they arrived, the girls beautiful shiny hair was cut off. Men were separated from the women. They were fed about once a day, families were stripped away, kids never saw their parents again. People were hung in front of family and friends. All of their possessions were taken even their clothes. They were forced to wear ripped and torn up rags in the cold. They had tattooed numbers tagged onto their wrists so if they ever escaped and they found them they would immediately shoot them. They had to work all day in the fields and if they got sick and were to weak to work they were gassed. If one tried to escape through the barbed wire, the physical pain was unbearable. One of the only ways to survive was for your mind to allow small distractions. Just like hannah did in the movie. In the
