The success of examining the bandwidth performance of a wideband antenna array relies on the optimal performance of each element present to signal processing. This is examined in terms of the direction of arrival (DOA) i.e. the direction of the interfering signals (desired signal and desired interference signals) and the interspacing between the tapped delay and length of the taps with the weights. The performance of the bandwidth is examined for a two element adaptive array with the use of the tapped delay line technique by keeping each element behind the tapped delay line. When a tapped delay line is introduced, the signal to noise-interference ratio improves for various signal bandwidths resulting in an increase of sensor numbers in the structure of the narrowband beam former and by varying the length of the tapped delay lines (TDL’s) to obtain a well known wideband beamforming structure. These TDL’s along with traditional linear array combine well to form an effective and well known beam form. “The characteristics are in such a way that they form a beam effectively with its azimuth range of over half and its response well over its repetition on the other side of the first half. The coefficients of the traditional wideband beam former are generally real valued and for the rectangular array the coefficients are generally complex valued as two implementation schemes are proposed for the impinging signals”. The performance analysis of a wideband beamformer will be analysed in terms of its output SINR with given different directions of arrival of impinging signals, different signal power levels and different number of antennas.

This research document is product of my hard work, perseverance, constant and continuous support from my dedicated teachers, friends and emotional support of my family.
