Lord of the Flies
Ralph- Ralph is the protagonist of the novel. He is the leader of the group.
Responsible- Ralph is responsible for the failures of the group since he is chosen to be the leader. He tries his best on everything that could be done in order to get rescued from the island.
Brave- Ralph is brave because he is willing to go on to the mountaintop even though he is scared. He also helps Piggy to get back his glasses and fight gainst the hunters by himself.
Jack- Jack is Ralph's antagonist in the novel and the leader of the choir.
Violent- Jack has changed from an educated school boy into a violent boy. He has the desire to kill. All he can think about is to kill a pig.
Cruel- Jack will become cruel and brutal when he begins to kill and forgets about his original self. He punishes littleluns and innocent people.
Piggy- Piggy is a friend of Ralph who is very fat and intelligent. He is killed by Roger at the end of the novel.
Intelligent- Piggy is smart and he gives Ralph advices most of the time. He thought about the plans that help them get rescued.
Timid- Piggy is afraid that they might not be rescued all the time. He is mad when the hunters let the fire goes off. He also thinks about safety first.
Simon- Simon is one of Ralph's most royal and helpful friends. He is killed by the hunters because they mistook him for the beast.
Shy- Simon rarely talks because he is shy. He respects everyone on the island but he has trouble communicating.
Thoughtful- Simon often goes off by himself to find a quiet place to think. He always talks to himself in his mind and thinks about things deeply.
Roger- He is the savage chief. He is also the supporter of Jack.
Cruel- Roger is cruel because he even bullies the littleluns. For example, he destroys a sand castle that the littleluns have built. He also tortures Sam and Eric and forces them to join the tribe.
Cold-blooded- Roger enjoys hurting others and he never holds back. He kills Piggy by pushing a boulder over him.
Sam and Eric- They are the identical twins who are in charge of keeping the fire going. They were on Ralph's side before Roger forces them to join the hunters. Supportive- They are loyal to Ralph until they are forced to join the hunters. They support Ralph all the way. They tell Ralph where to hide when the hunters are chasing him.
Inconsistent- They tell Ralph where to hide but later reveal it to Jack because of the torturing. Even though the boys call them the biguns, they are still little kids so they can not bear it.
Littleluns- They are the little boys of the group whose age is about six.
Immature- They always cry and whine. They cry when they hear about the beast.
Young- The littleluns are about six years old. They were named as the littleluns as a way of classification.
Hunters- They are also known as the choirboys. They are led by Jack.
Loyal- They are loyal to Jack and follow everything he orders, even though they might be wrong.
Violent- If they are loyal to Jack, then that also means they are as violent as Jack. They kill Simon and they try to kill Ralph at the end of the novel.
Major settings:
This is where Ralph and Piggy discover the conch shell and where all the boys meet. Piggy thinks the conch can be used as a trumpet and Ralph then finds the other boys by blowing the conch. Later on they decide who ever has the conch will have the right to speak. The beach is also where Simon dies and Ralph is rescued by a naval officer.
