Dr. Graves,
To determine the next steps in assessing the donation from Professor Perez I have outlined areas where more information is needed to determine the full scope of the donation, as well as a purpose timeline to complete the project, lastly the team members and budget to take on the task of completing the project.
Information needs and concerns:
Professor Perez identified that the donations consist of prints, negatives, and contact sheets (varying in color, and black and white photographs, and 35mm negatives) that he has collected, and stored in a garage. Therefore, questions of quality of the items are something to consider since adequate preservation has yet to be undertaken.
There is also mention of these photographs/ prints ranging in size. These items will need to be properly assessed to understand format, medium, and if in fact these items can be digitized without losing quality. …show more content…
Also, Professor Perez mentioned that he has shared these items with his class, on postcards, flicker, and other public websites. Permissions and contracts need to be reviewed to ensure ownership of the items (copyright).
Lastly, the size of the collection. Aside from the physical items, Professor Perez states that he has six computer drives of varying sizes of digital photography that dates back to 2000. The size of this collection needs to be properly itemized looking at quality, format, medium, and size to understand the complete scope of the collection, and possible technology and staff that would be needed to digitize the collection (this would also address if all items are able to be digitized without losing the quality of the
