ENTRY ONE 9/18/12: Chapter 2 – Chapter 13 (pg 1-8)

Summary:
Christopher John Francis Boone is a 15 year old boy. He knows all the countries of the world and their capital cities, likes dogs more than people, and knows every prime number up to 7,057. He finds his neighbor’s dog, Wellington, dead on her front lawn. Mrs. Shears, his neighbor, calls the police when she finds Christopher hugging the dead dog. The policeman asks Christopher a lot of questions and Christopher can’t keep up with them so instead he just groans. The policeman picks Christopher up and he hits the policeman. Christopher also states that he will find out who killed Wellington.
Questions:
1) Why would Christopher touch the dead dog? – He touched the dead dog because he likes dogs and felt said because it died.
2) If Christopher doesn’t really like people then why does he talk to some people like Siobhan? – He only to talks to people that he thinks are good, trustable people after he gets to know them better.
3) What will happen now that Christopher hit the policeman? – Christopher gets sent to the police station.
4) If Christopher understands the point of the joke he stated, then why does he not find it even a bit funny? – He said that he doesn’t find it funny because when he tries to make sense of all the definitions at the same time and figure out which definition applies to what he says, “…… it is like hearing three different pieces of music at the same time, which is uncomfortable and confusing…… ” We can tell from this statement that Christopher doesn’t like jokes.
Prediction:
I predict that Christopher is going to get filed for juvenile detention and that someone from his family is going to have to pay a fee to bail him out. I think that this will happen because when someone gets sent to a prison, if their family members have enough money, then they bail them out of jail. – I was wrong because Christopher just had to wait there in the police station until his dad came to pick him up.
Reflection:
These chapters were really intriguing because they weren’t the traditional chapters you would find in the beginning of the book. Aside from that, I also noticed that the numeration of the chapters is also not what you would find in a traditional book. So far I am enjoying the book because it is not something that boring and expected. Instead it is something new and refreshing to me. From what I have read I would tell people that this book is a good book because it is unique and it definitely hooks the reader in because it starts off right away the murder scene of a dog. The protagonist, Christopher, narrates his story in a humorous way even without trying. He says that no jokes are in his book but he still manages to keep a humorous voice within the story without noticing he is doing so. Right away I could infer that Christopher has autism because of all the clues such as not being able to recognize emotions easily, not understanding jokes easily, and the fact that he doesn’t like to be touched. I think that the fact that the book is from the point of view from someone with autism will make it an interesting and different book. I think that the book is believable because it doesn’t contain anything that couldn’t happen in real life. Right now I am hooked into the story and it seems like it will be a good book.
