The Life of Mrs. Mallard
The Story of an Hour tells the life of Mrs. Mallard which is a married woman who is in a controlling relationship with her husband. This story takes place in the 1890’s, during this time period most women were not allowed to be anything other than controlled.( Toth ). She found out that her husband who controlled her life has died. Her sister Josephine and her husband’s friend Richards came to her after Richard, who worked in the newspaper office told her the awful news. My point in this story is they killed Mrs. Mallard. Because if she never would have thought her husband was dead she would still be alive. Mrs. Mallard did not react as most women should she faked being upset, she was even happy which telling me her husband made her unhappy, and she even died because of not the loss of her husband but of the excitement that he was dead. She thought about everything in her life and how it once was. Then she took a deep breath and realized she was free at once and able to do anything her heart desired. In the story she it said, she said “ free, free, free” she felt as if a great life has been lifted off her shoulders. (Chopin) She was known to have a heart condition, which also worried her sister. When Josephine opens the door, she is surprised to find Mrs. Mallard dead. The doctor said that she died of happiest which is a heart attack back then.(Cunningham) .The terrible thing about this is she died and her husband Mr. Mallard never died, he was not even around the wreck he was far away from it. Mrs. Mallard in this time period is truly trying to get of the society where women are nothing to
