The name of this short story is called “Revelation” written by the author Flannery O’Connor. This short story can be very significant to the reader, because it can be both relatable and personal to the reader. O’Connor uses the characters Mrs. Turpin and Mary Grace as an example to explain the theme. The theme of the short story can be explained as individuals not knowing their judgement and ignorance upon others until someone or something exposes it to the individual. In the short story, the reader is introduced to the character Mrs. Turpin who is a fat, judgmental, and religious woman who as she walks into the doctor’s office with her husband, she automatically judges the people in the office based off their appearance which is the one of the many example of her ignorance in the short story that she is not aware of (O’Connor 1-6). Further into the story, Mrs. Turpin consider herself and her husband to be superior to those in the doctor’s office, explaining that there is class of people based on race, money, and appearance. It is immediately known that Mary Grace does not like Mrs. Turpin at all, but Mary Grace disliking of Mrs. Turpin became more and more prevalent as the story goes on with many examples (O’Connor 4, 16-17).
