Gender Roles in Much Ado About Nothing

Gender roles play a big part in Shakespeare's play. Characters have different ways of believing things. Men have more power than girls because they are more stern. Beatrice believes that everybody should be equal. She believes that because she doesn’t like how she can’t challenge a guy. William Shakespeare, in his play Much Ado About Nothing, is saying that because the characters are different genders they play different roles. Guys and girls have a very different way of showing emotion and belief different things. Sometimes guys have more power and sometimes girls have more power.

Beatrice is fightings traditional gender roles because she wanted to fight Claudio because he called Hero out at her own wedding as she was getting married to Claudio. Beatrice really wanted to stand up for Hero but she couldn’t because

We also have different beliefs on things. In the play Much Ado About Nothing Beatrice thinks that Hero should live but Leonato thinks she should die. Leonato said “...Do not live, Hero; do not open thine eyes; For, did I think thou wouldst not quickly die…”(Shakespeare 68). This proves that Leonato has a different point of view on Hero’s life then Beatrice. Over all, guys have a different point of view about Margret being innocent or not, this is an example of how guys and girls have different opinions on things. The guys defended Margret and girls said that she was guilty of causing all the problems at the wedding which included Hero being called out about making out with Borachio when really it was Margret. Another thing is that in the quote Leonato was super mad and angry when he was trying to convict Hero to being guilty but Frier was super calm when saying how Hero is innocent.
