In today's society, true love can be described as someone buying a dazzling present for the significant other, celebrating their special anniversary with a beautiful getaway from their hectic life, or even risking anything in the world for that one person. These are all real examples of true love but these are also the things that Claudio didn’t do to show his affection and love towards Hero. Instead, he chose to humiliate her on their wedding day, he didn’t trust her to stay faithful until marriage, and even “killed” her. In the play, Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare, the main characters, Hero, and Claudio, are not truly in love and their actions display that.

Claudio had absolutely no empathy towards the women he used to love and about her tragic death. It was in Act 5 Scene 1, when Leonato’s grief has made a challenge for Claudio, Leonato tried to reason with him but Claudio responded with, “ Away, I will not have to do with you.” He fully rejected to hear anything or talk with Leonato about what he did to the poor Hero. He didn’t want anything to do with Hero even her innocent family. Also, in Scene 5 Act 1, when everyone tries to confirm that Don John was ultimately behind this entire scheme he automatically questions it. Claudio says, “ Who wrongs him?” Claudio didn’t think first of how he was wrong of accusing his “true love” in life but first about the “Bastard,” Don John. This goes to show his loss of concern for Hero and what he did to her. Now, a lot of people would not consider this man to be in love with Hero because he doesn’t entirely feel guilty for what he did but more so feels happy that what he did was the for the better. Losing someone who you were madly in love with doesn’t sound like any kind of favor you were doing whether it was today or centuries ago it instead sounds like pure hate and
