Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr., formerly known as Muhammad Ali was an activist and an American Professional Boxer. Muhammad Ali, being one of the most influential sport figures in all of the 20th century helped start the Antiwar movement and stopped racism by introducing black power to a white America. Muhammad Ali’s childhood has made a huge impact on his life. Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr. was born on July 17, 1942 in Louisville, Kentucky. Who knew that one event in his childhood can change who he was. At the age of 12, his bike was stolen from the Columbia Auditorium. But when he was asked to serve in the U.S. military during the Vietnam War, he refused. That resulted in him having is championship title taken from him. The New York boxing association took all his titles from him and even banned him from boxing for three years. He said that he wouldn’t doe for his country because he didn’t wanna shoot poor people. But that actually shows Ali’s personality. It is really amazing how he can have such a thought. He is risking his titles and boxing career just so we wouldn’t have to shoot poor innocent people. That shows a lot about his personality. It shows how Ali has very good morals. At that time, many americans supported the war but Ali decided to speak out. After that media called him a coward and a traitor. He did pay a huge price by giving up his career. He was at a point where he should have retired. Ali pretty much jump started the Sixties Antiwar Movement. It also helped encourage Martin Luther King to come out against the Vietnam conflict.
